Suhail Sameer, CEO, BharatPe

Suhail Sameer is the Chief Executive Officer at BharatPe, one of India’s fastest growing financial services company. A prolific leader and a young achiever, Suhail has close to a decade and half of experience of working with companies from the Consumer (FMCG, retail), Energy (Utilities, Cleantech), and financial services sectors. He has built businesses from scratch and also helped turn around and/or grow existing companies.  

As the CEO of BharatPe, Suhail is responsible for the overall Business and P&L, Merchant Network Expansion, Monetisation, Lending, Banking Foray and the Brand. He works closely with Ashneer Grover, Co-Founder and MD, BharatPe and the Board to build BharatPe as the one-stop destination for all financial and payment needs of the merchant community. He is focussed on building a robust financial services business as well as creating new revenue lines on top of BharatPe’s rapidly expanding merchant network.  

Suhail is passionate about building the fintech and digital payments industry in India. He is on the Governing Council of IAMAI as well as on CII National committee on Financial Inclusion & FinTech. He is also on the FICCI Banking Committee. 

During his career, Suhail has worked with leading companies like RP Sanjiv Goenka, Fireside Ventures, McKinsey and company and OTP Venture Partners. At RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, Suhail was the CEO, FMCG Business and MD, RPSG Ventures. Suhail launched and scaled the multi-brand FMCG business (including brands like Too Yumm!, Evita and Dr. Vaidya) for the group. Suhail also helped Saregama in scaling their first B2C product (Carvaan) by providing thought leadership and execution support for retail chain contracts, and finalising India manufacturing. He also set-up and managed RPSG Ventures, their consumer VC fund. Additionally, he drove growth and portfolio decisions across many group companies. At McKinsey, Suhail led the clean-tech practice for South Asia and also spearheaded the Power practice for the Indian market. Suhail was one of the core members of McKinsey’s Institutional Investors Practice and co-led McKinsey’s Consumer Practice in India 

As the Managing Partner at OTP Venture Partners, Suhail has invested in early stage startups across consumer, consumer tech, fintech and SaaS space. Suhail is one of the ‘Mentors of Change’ for the Niti Aayog managed Atal Innovation Mission that supports innovation, career development and entrepreneurship amongst children. Suhail is also a member of FICCI National Committee on Banking. 

An IIM Lucknow and DCE alumnus, Suhail is a winner of the Economic Times Most Promising Leaders of Asia Award and Business World 40 under 40 in the year 2019. He was ranked by LinkedIn amongst the 14 most influential leaders for India in 2018-19. Suhail recently featured in the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leadership List 2022. 

Suhail loves to travel in his spare time and has visited over 100 countries till date.
